Gerry's approach, philosophy and expertise

Gerry Quin has a passion for preventative care dentistry and practises a more holistic approach to oral care. He believes it is important to teach and educate patients on how to take care of themselves and focuses on prevention as part of the cure.

Quin Dental’s natural care philosophy combines teaching patients the conceptual understanding of basic oral health and hygiene with treatments that are minimally invasive, striving towards overall better oral health.

Gerry completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at Otago University NZ in 1987. In 1989, following a year at Waikato Hospital with a focus on oral surgery, Gerry joined Ross Holland at Nile Street Dental Centre in Nelson and bought into the practice in 1990 and in 2004 the practice shifted to larger premises. In 2017 Gerry created Quin Dental to cater to his growing patient list and focus on his passion to change how dentistry is practiced in NZ.

In 2014 Gerry completed a Master’s of Science from Tufts University in Boston USA under the guidance of Dr Noshir Mehta of the Craniofacial pain clinic. Gerry has always had an interest in the total person approach to health care and education as a way to help prevention of oral health problems. He was an early provider of laser dentistry being the first to own a “Waterlase” in the South Island.

Gerry is a founding member of the NZ Institute of Minimal Invasive Dentistry (NZIMID) to bring in innovative techniques, an International Association of Orthodontics (IAO) instructor, a member of the local branch of the NZ Dental Association (NZDA), a member of the NZ Dentists Orthodontic society (NZDOS) and a member of the American Association of Cranio facial Pain (AACP). Gerry aims to look at the person rather than individual teeth to provide a more natural approach to care.
